Alexander Klingspor ‘NYC legend’ monumental sculpture – My small part in an international Art project

In 2022 and 2023 I collaborated with the artist Alexander Klingspor as 3D sculptor assistant in various steps of the creation of the monumental artwork NYC-legend. The final monumental sculpture, 2,25 meters tall, has been installed in Union Square, New York City at the presence of H.M. The Queen Silvia of Sweden on October 17th, 2023 and will be exhibited until June 2024. It has been an honour and professional growth to take part in this high relevance project.

At the beginning, Klingspor asked me to modify a 3d scanned version of little size NYC-legend sculpture ( see here, 27 cm diameter) following the evolution of the concept he wanted to achieve for the monumental version. It was quite a long and demanding work, made by changements and revisions over and over again to every detail of the 3d to reach the final result. At the same time it meant to me the opportunity to observe and take part in the process of artistic creation of such a great international artist.

When the 3d file of the entire sculpture was finally ready, we sent it to be 3d printed in the actual large size and then transposed to wax at Perseo Art Foundry in Switzerland, where Alexander made the final artist hand refining to the texture before casting in bronze. Finally, when the sculpture was completely finished and the patina added, Klingspor asked me to make a tiny coloured 3d version of the masterpiece, to be shown on the official website (see the 3d version here). The celebration and installation in Union Square has been a huge success, spread by the most prestigious newspaper and tv such New York Times and Abc7.
