‘Judith and Holofernes’ special mention 2025 at Sarezzo Art Prize

The last years of expressive research have led me to make my sculptures increasingly closer to the idea of energy that lies beneath the formal composition. Remove rather than add, to allow the energy lines of the sculptural composition to emerge and take on full relevance. Lines, bars and bindings become the language of the continuous dialogue between counteracting energies and tensions to find the equilibrium: this is the core of my new series of sculptures ‘Contruction Lines‘.

The sculpture ‘Judith and Holofernes‘, which received a special mention in the 2025 edition of the Comune di Sarezzo Art Prize, represents the synthesis of this process. Made of welded stainless steel, bronze, resin and gold leaf, the sculpture reinterprets the biblical episode made famous by Caravaggio in an anti-heroic way.

The jury commented on the work: ‘The biblical episode that gives the work its title is treated with considerable dramatic intensity, both in the sharp and incomplete forms, and in the lively chromatic contrast of the dark flesh covered in gold, and in the unstable play of the reticular ribs that design the structure of the work’.

‘L’episodio biblico che dà il titolo all’opera viene trattato con ragguardevole intensità drammatica, sia nelle forme taglienti e incomplete, sia nel vivace contrasto cromatico delle carni scure percorse dall’oro, sia nel gioco instabile delle nervature reticolari che disegnano la struttura del lavoro’
